Red Bossman[]

The Red Bossmen are the first Bossman enemy encountered by the player; they appear in Underworld, Stone Pit, Loony Park (Overdose), Haunted City and High Seas.

His skin is grey and has a well defined body with giant arms; their eyes are also entirely hollow. He wears a red pirate bandana with a hole on it, revealing his bald head, a leather strap around the chest, red leggings with a giant belt, and pirate boots, he also has an ear piercing for the left ear and the other one ended up being used as a bull nose ring. The weight of their cannons give them a hunchback appearance.

The Red Bossmen will use their cannons at long range, or kick the player with their right leg if they get close to them. They dual wield two cannons with wheels which means that they will shot two cannonballs at you, that unlike most bombs, will bounce before they explode. Though, it is unknown how they manage to fire the cannons, despite both of their hands being occupied.

The regular version appears in Loony Park (Overdose), Haunted City and High Seas, they are fairly weak and small.

A slightly larger variation with more health also appears in the final area of Loony Park (Overdose). These ones are peculiar as they are not required to be killed for the end portal to show up, the compass does not track them, and they are not counted in the scoreboard, but their souls are counted.

Mega Red Bossman[]

This version appears exclusively in Underworld, they are similar in every aspect to the regular ones, except that they have a lot more health and are larger in size. They usually spawn along with Red Pirates.

Big Cannon Red Bossman[]

This version appears exclusively in Stone Pit, they cannot be frozen, have more health than the Mega ones and their size also varies: from being larger than the regular ones to being just as large as the Mega ones. They always know where you are hiding and will come after you if they want.

Giant Red Bossman[]

The Giant Red Bossman is the last Bossman enemy you will encounter. He is found in: Haunted City, in the docks area, and in High Seas, almost everywhere on the map. He is an even bigger immobile version of the Big Cannon Red Bossman with a ludicrous amount of health, but unlike the latter one, this one can be frozen and killed instantly.

Yellow Bossman[]

The Yellow Bossmen are the second Bossman enemy encountered by the player; they appear in Underworld, Stone Pit, Loony Park (Overdose), Haunted City, High Seas and Old Underground Complex.

Much like the red one, his skin is pale and has a well defined body with giant arms; their eyes are also entirely hollow. He wears a purple pirate bandana with a hole on it, revealing his bald head, a leather strap around the chest, yellow leggings that also have a hole in them, with a giant belt, and pirate boots; he has an ear piercing for the left ear and the other one ended up being used as a bull nose ring. He is also taller than the Red Bossman because of his posture.

The Yellow Bossmen will use their cannons at long range, or swing their entire cannon at the player if they get close to them. They hold a single big cannon in both of their hands which means that they will shot one cannonball at you. But, unlike their Red counterparts, these cannonballs are not projectiles; instead, they are hitscan, which means that they are sure to hit their target every time unless it moves.

The regular version appears in Loony Park (Overdose), Haunted City, High Seas and Old Underground Complex, they are fairly weak and small.

Mega Yellow Bossman[]

This version appears exclusively in Underworld, they are similar in every aspect to the regular ones, except that they have a lot more health and are larger in size. They usually spawn along with Yellow Pirates.

Big Cannon Yellow Bossman[]

This version appears exclusively in Stone Pit, they cannot be frozen, have more health and are even larger than the Mega ones. They always know where you are hiding and will come after you if they want.

There is also an unused variation of them where they have slightly less health (440).

Giant Yellow Bossman[]

This is an unused version of Yellow Bossman found in Resurrection. He is slightly larger than a Big Cannon Yellow Bossman, has even more health than his Giant Red Bossman version (1900), his explosion deals more damage (1/27.5/55/82.5), and is considered to be a Boss. His animations are broken and he is also blind, so he won't attack you no matter what. Much like his Giant Red Bossman version, he can be frozen and killed instantly as well, despite being a Boss.

Booklet Description[]

On the Galleon, a ghost ship forever plying the seas of Purgatory, when the Pirates are unable to dispatch intruders, the Bossmen are there as backup. There are two Bossman varieties. The first is a brutish creature that will blast you with the pair of ship’s cannons he carries, one under each arm. This creature is deadly, even from a distance. The other Bossman ignores ranged weapons in favor of a ship’s mast, which he wields like a giant club.

Trivia[]

  • The Bossmen are the only pirates that did not lose their flesh.
  • These enemies were likely going to appear in the scrapped Galleon level and then carried over to Underworld and Stone Pit as returning enemies.
    • According to the booklet, Yellow Bossmen were supposed to carry a ship's mast, not another cannon.
  • Painkiller: Overdose introduced two death animations for them that go unused. Both versions share the same animations, but the Yellow Bossman executes them faster.
    • The first one has them turn back and fall down whilst throwing their cannons away.
    • The second one has them drop their cannons and fall on their knees before collapsing.
  • If you freeze-shoot the Giant Red Bossman while you have the Health Stealer tarot card, it will refill your health up to the maximum amount(300 in Resurrection).
  • If you gib the Yellow Bossman, it will show Red Bossman's corpse instead.
