Corn[]

A horrible mixture of man and popcorn, Corns are rather dangerous enemies that appear in: Loony Park (Battle out of Hell and Overdose), Haunted City and Hangar.

The Corns appear to be men with Proteus syndrome with growths very similar to "the Elephant Man" which give them a bloated appearance: their skin is grey, which might suggest that they are a living corpse; growths covering their entire body, almost all of them are popped and are bleeding over their other growths; a big chunk of their abdomen is missing, leaving a huge bloody hole from which they grab projectiles; their toes are fused together; and their head is just a massive tumor with ears and mouth without the upper jaw. Their hands are covered in blood and on their legs is also blood that seems to have had dried.

Corns have a throwing attack where they scoop bits of themselves (possibly corn seeds) and throw them at the player which will poison him on touch. The bits themselves emit a reddish poisonous cloud. Corns also have a melee attack, an arm swing, which they will use at close range.

When the Corn dies, it will start emitting red fumes that will poison the player when they get in close proximity. These fumes do not show up however, if the body is gibbed.

The normal version appears in Loony Park (Overdose), Haunted City (Version 42) and Hangar. They have mediocre health and range, and can throw projectiles that deal damage on contact and also poison you. A worse variation of this one is the main Corn enemy during the park section of Loony Park (Battle out of Hell) which has its range severely reduced.

There is an unused variation of the Corn enemy that throws projectiles in a straight line at very high speed instead of a curved trajectory. It got used in Haunted City for a brief period in Version 42 before being cut again and replaced with its City counterpart.

Booklet Description[]

In Loonypark, even the snacks are deadly! A bizarre combination of man and popcorn, this creature is fond of throwing deadly poison projectiles at unwelcome park guests.

Rail Corn[]

This variation is only met during the roller coaster section of Loony Park (Battle out of Hell), they are usually seen either on some buildings, or literally on the rail itself. The only noticeable difference is that they have extremely low health, being capable of dying from any shot of any weapon, have extremely long range, are slightly bigger, and have a considerably increased attack speed.

Manor House Corn[]

These Corn enemies are also met in Orphanage (Manor House), only in the German version, replacing every single child, due to Video Game Censorship in Germany regarding violence against children. This version has incredibly low health, does not throw projectiles and is slightly smaller than regular Corns.

Despite being bigger and adults, they are way weaker than the child enemies.

City Corn[]

This version replaces the normal Corn enemies in Haunted City from Version 43 onward and can also be found in the Hangar level. They are a weaker version of the Corn enemy whose poison damage is also reduced. A peculiar feature that they have is that they are the only Corn enemies that are very hard to gib, making their poisonous corpse an unavoidable threat.

A variation of the City Corn enemy, that throws projectiles in a straight line at very high speed instead of a curved trajectory, can also be found in Haunted City.

Due to a bug in Version 44, their projectiles are no longer poisonous, weakening them even further.

Belial when he sees the Green Corn for the first time.

Green Corn[]

A man that suffered horrible mutations from the radioactive waste scattered around the nuclear facility, Green Corns are rather dangerous enemies that appear in Nuclear Plant and Haunted City.

The Green Corns, much like their regular counterpart, appear to be severely irradiated men with growths very similar to "the Elephant Man" which give them a bloated appearance: their skin is grey, which might suggest that they are a living corpse; growths covering their entire body, almost all of them are popped and are bleeding over their other growths; a big chunk of their abdomen is missing, leaving a huge bloody hole from which they grab projectiles; their toes are fused together; and their head is just a massive tumor with ears and mouth without the upper jaw. Their hands are covered in blood and on their legs is also blood that seems to have had dried. A new striking detail is that they are also noticeably covered in radioactive waste, which can be seen flowing through their veins, inside their orifices, and also oozing from their tumors.

They are even more dangerous than their normal counterpart. While still having the same throwing attack, they possess more health, making them very difficult to kill. On death, they will emit the same damaging green tinted cloud as their thrown projectiles.

Green Corn Elite[]

Green Corns Elite are the most dangerous Corn enemies, they possess all of the regular Green Corns abilities and also have more health and increased accuracy. They only appear on the suspended platform in the storage in Nuclear Plant.

Sewer Corn[]

Sewer Corns appear in all sorts of places in Haunted City, but most notably, the sewers. They are way weaker than their normal Green Corn counterpart.

Sewer Corn Elite[]

The Elite version of the Sewer Corn that also appears almost everywhere in Haunted City, they possess all of the Sewer Corn abilities with the added benefit of having increased accuracy and more health, but they are still weaker than a normal Green Corn.

Trivia[]

  • The Corn enemy will frequently have sparks coming out of their body, probably hinting the sudden burst of corn seeds when heated.
  • BOOH Icon Some Rail Corns can be clearly seen disappearing after some time.
  • Overdose Icon Two new death animations were introduced for them that go unused:
    • The first one has them trip forward, followed by a twist to land on their back.
    • The second one has them land head first into the ground.

Corn[]

The Corns are bloated, monstrous enemies that appear in Painkiller: Purgatory. They are the second enemy encountered by the player; they act as a tougher common enemy, being the second most common enemy, and are seen alongside the Leper Zombies and Beasts.

Corn's appearance remains mostly unchanged from the original; however, the hardware limitations are clearly seen in its model, as it is less detailed and appears more simplistic. The Corns appear to be men with Proteus syndrome with growths very similar to "the Elephant Man" which give them a bloated appearance: their skin is grey, which might suggest that they are a living corpse; growths covering their entire body, almost all of them are popped and are bleeding over their other growths; a big chunk of their abdomen is missing, leaving a huge bloody hole; their toes are fused together; and their head is just a massive tumor with ears and mouth without the upper jaw. Their hands are covered in blood and on their legs is also blood that seems to have had dried.

They behave differently from their original counterpart; instead of throwing projectiles from their body in a curved trajectory, they now throw a slow blue projectile in a straight line towards the player that deals high damage and does not poison the player. They will also slowly creep towards the player when they are not directly attacking them and won't keep their distance, instead opting for melee attacks.

When dying, their body will always gib, and, as such, getting poisoned from their corpse is also no longer possible.

Boss Corn[]

The Boss Corn is the second boss fought by the player; it is encountered at the end of the second level in Cathedral (Purgatory) and behaves exactly like normal Corns, except that it is as big as the room and it has more health.

Trivia[]

  • The blue projectiles that they throw are internally called in the game's source code as "Blue Thing".
  • They use Krusty's sounds instead of their own.
    • They also share the same sounds with Attacking Bats when being hurt or killed.
