Red Pirate[]

The Red Pirates are the first pirate enemy that the player encounters; they appear in Underworld, Stone Pit, Loony Park (Overdose), Haunted City, High Seas and Old Underground Complex.

They are the remains of pirates that lived a long time ago; entirely skeletal, missing their lower jaw and collarbones, and have red lights coming out of their eye sockets. They are noticeable covered in gold: they wear a red vest, a gold filled leather strap with two cutlasses attached to it at the back; leather gloves filled with gold; black leggings with four skulls sewn in and a leather belt that has a skull in front and a flintlock pistol attached to it; leather boots with gold embedded into them and skull graving, and a gold decorated dagger is also hidden within their left boot. They have strange symbols engraved in their belt and cutlasses.

Despite their heavy arsenal, they only use the blunderbuss and a single sticky bomb that they will throw at you. They will also hit you with the blunderbuss if you get very close to them. Their movement is to very often stand in place or patrol a specific spot. Judging from all of these, they might have been the guards. They are very often accompanied by Red Bossmen.

The regular version is the most common one and appears in Stone Pit, Loony Park (Overdose), Haunted City, High Seas and Old Underground Complex.

A stronger and bigger variation of these pirates appears exclusively in Underworld. One major feature that they have is that they are also considerably faster.

The Red Pirates from Underworld as well as Stone Pit always know where you are hiding, and will come after you if they want.

Yellow Pirate[]

The Yellow Pirates are the second pirate enemy that the player encounters; they appear in Underworld, Stone Pit, Loony Park (Overdose), Haunted City, High Seas, Spikes, Old Underground Complex and Entrance.

They are the remains of pirates that lived a long time ago; entirely skeletal, missing their lower jaw and collarbones. They are noticeably covered in silver: they wear a yellow vest, a silver filled leather strap with a blunderbuss attached to it at the back; leather gloves filled with silver; purple leggings with four skulls sewn in and a leather belt that has a skull in front and a flintlock pistol attached to it; leather boots with silver embedded into them and skull graving, and a silver decorated dagger is also hidden within their left boot. They have strange symbols engraved in their belt and cutlasses.

Despite their heavy arsenal, they only use two cutlasses that they will dual wield. They have only one movement, chasing you and after they are close enough to you, they will swing their cutlasses at you. Judging from all of these, they might have been the crew. They are very often accompanied by Yellow Bossmen.

The regular version is the most common one and appears in Underworld, Stone Pit, Loony Park (Overdose), Haunted City, High Seas, Spikes, Old Underground Complex and Entrance.

Purple Pirate[]

The Purple Pirates are the last pirate enemy that the player encounters; they appear in Underworld, Stone Pit, Loony Park (Overdose), Haunted City, High Seas and Old Underground Complex.

They are the remains of pirates that lived a long time ago; entirely skeletal, missing their lower jaw and collarbones. They are noticeably covered in silver: they wear a purple vest, a silver filled leather strap with two cutlasses attached to it at the back; leather gloves filled with silver; blue leggings with four skulls sewn in and a leather belt that has a skull in front; leather boots with silver embedded into them and skull graving, and a silver decorated dagger is also hidden within their left boot. They have strange symbols engraved in their belt and cutlasses.

Despite their heavy arsenal, they only use two flintlock pistols that they will dual wield and sticky bombs that they will throw at you. Unlike the Red Pirates, they have an unlimited supply of sticky bombs. If you get close to them, they will quickly distance themselves and shoot you immediately after. Their only movement is to stay at distance. Judging from all of these, they might have been the captains.

The regular version is the most common one and appears in Underworld, Stone Pit, Loony Park (Overdose), Haunted City, High Seas and Old Underground Complex.

Booklet Description[]

The Pirates who defend the Galleon come in two varieties, each with its own method of attack. The first type wields a short-barreled gun with which he can blast you from a distance. The other Pirate type is more up close and personal, and prefers to cut you to ribbons with a pair of razor-sharp swords. A third variety of Pirate awaits you in the Underworld. This one is a variation on the gun-toting Galleon Pirate. He carries a pair of single-shot pistols and fires them with deadly accuracy.

Trivia[]

  • There is a discrepancy within the ranks of the Pirates, despite Red Pirates having a more rich and threatening appearance, the Purple Pirates assume the role of captains.
  • BOOH Icon These enemies were likely going to appear in the unreleased Galleon level and then carried over to Underworld and Stone Pit as returning enemies.
    • The booklet description of the Pirates suggests wildly different weapon selection from the one featured in the game.
  • Overdose Icon Four new death animations were introduced for them that go unused. The first two are for Red Pirate, and the last two for Yellow Pirate and Purple Pirate.
    • The first one has them turn back, possibly due to recoil, and fall onto their blunderbuss.
    • The second one has them fall on their knees and end up in a hunchback position.
    • The third one has them spin around, possibly due to recoil, and fall on their back. They hold firmly onto their weapons when doing this.
    • The fourth one has them collapsing head first backwards. Only the Purple Pirate will hold onto his weapons while the other one will drop them.
  • Resurrection Icon More types of Pirate enemies were supposed to appear in the game, this time with flesh on them, but were scrapped early on in development; only their concept art made it out.
