Old Monastery is the third level of Painkiller chapter 5 and penultimate level in Painkiller. It appears on all difficulty modes except for Trauma difficulty - which disables all levels in chapter 5.

Description[]

This level is set on a small island which is beautiful and has an old monastery that has been built in roman style. On the island is a small graveyard, belfry and a monastery. The monastery apparently has been damaged by an earthquake because most of the walls and floor in the middle part are destroyed. Below the monastery is a crypt and various caves. Also the whole island on which the old monastery lies is surrounded by water which, in contrast to City on Water or Docks, is not deadly.

Tarot card[]

The tarot card of this level is Soul Redeemer. To acquire it, the player has to keep Health Points above 50.

Secret areas/pickups[]

Three armors can be found in this level:

The first one (bronze) is in the middle of the ruins on the hill.
The second one (silver) is at the bottom of the broken well (connected with secret #1).
The third one (silver) is behind the big wall of the apse inside the monastery (the very front part of the building).

Secret 1	The first secret is located inside the alcove in the broken well. It is reached simply by jumping into that alcove to collect a golden cup.	Video
Secret 2	The second secret is located on the roof of the belfry next to the monastery. It is reached by jumping from the window in the room with the broken bell, onto the roof and then going straight to the golden cross.	Video
Secret 3	The third secret is located on top of ruined walls in some kind of ruins next to the monastery. It is reached by jumping onto those ruins from the left side of the mountain on which the monastery building is. After a successful jump climb onto that wall to the secret.	Video
Secret 4	The fourth secret is located on the roof of the eastern part of the monastery (sacristy). It is reached by: Collecting a pentagram star on the ruined floor next to the window in the eastern part of the monastery (sacristy). Then try to climb onto the tallest window on the wall. After successful jump collect the golden host next to the wall.	Video

Trivia[]

According to Eve, Old Monastery contains an entrance gate to Hell.
It's possible that Old Monastery level was inspired by Greek Meteor, rock formations with precisely built Orthodox monastery complexes on top of them. Also considering the fact that chandelier in main, large building (that cracks open cave entrance later on) looks like Orthodox cross.

Monastery is the first level of Painkiller Hell & Damnation DLC chapter.

Secret	Description	Video
Secret 1	The first secret is located in the hollow tree trunk on the left side of the monastery. To reach it the player has to simply go to it and find the gap with an armor and a holy item.	Video
Secret 2	The second secret is located inside the dead-end corridor in the first cave the player enters. To reach it the player has to go to the pentagram in this section of caves and then find a candle with blue flame. Then the player has to shoot it with Soul Catcher to make it put out. After that the player will be teleported to the dead-end corridor with mega health.	Video
Secret 3	The third secret is located on small rock shelf at the bottom level of the caves (near the end of the level). To reach it the player has to simply jump on the shelf.	Video
