Town is the fifth level of Painkiller chapter 2.

Description[]

This level is set in a medieval town that apparently has been hit by a plague - which is very obvious due to "x" signs on many doors and Leper Zombies' rags. Most of the buildings are set on fire or destroyed. It appears that the plague and leprosy is the work of evil cultists known as Leper Monks who have hidden underground in order to avoid scrutiny.

Monsters[]

This level is inhabited mostly by lepers but there are also three other kinds of monsters. They include:

Leper Zombies - The undead citizens are the main enemies of the level.
Witches - They fly around the town and there are only three of them.
Leper Monks - They are the culprits of the town's death.
Amputees - They come out of coffins located around the town.

Tarot card[]

The tarot card of this level is Double Haste. To acquire it, the player has to finish the level using stakes only. (The Stakeguns primary fire)

Secret areas/pickups[]

Only one armor can be found in this level:

The gold armor is in the dead end street after a long street with coffins.

Secret	Description	Video
Secret 1	The first secret is located inside a burning window at the beginning of the level. It is reached by placing the nearby cart next to the wall and using Painkiller to reach it or by climbing onto the nearby ladder. If the ladder is destroyed, the player must bring a wooden cart and use Painkiller on it to reach it. Note: Don't use the Painkiller if you want to get the tarot card.	Video
Secret 2	The second secret is located opposite to secret #1, on the roofed balcony. It is reached just like in the case of secret #1, by placing wooden cart next to the wall and using Painkiller to reach it. Note: Don't use the Painkiller if you want to get the tarot card.	Video
Secret 3	The third secret is located inside a burning window in the larger open space. It is reached by climbing onto broken wooden pillars via jumping onto a wooden cart (it cannot be destroyed) and slowly going onto the wall and then jumping into the window.	Video
Secret 4	The fourth secret is located in the small broken wall in one building which is next to the burning house in the center. It is reached by placing a wooden cart next to small roof and then reaching the hole.	Video
Secret 5	The fifth secret is located in the house's window in the street with the coffins. It is reached by putting some barrels beneath the broken balcony. Then climb onto the balcony and jump into the open window. You can also use a wooden cart instead of barrels.	Video

Trivia[]

This level is the only one where you start with 99 HP instead of 100 HP. The reason behind this is that in early development of this game the default health for every level was 999 HP. And later the only first "9" was deleted and kept like this.
The level is based around the event of the Great Plague and the Fire of London that happened in 1665-1666. Especially poor areas were affected by disease, having doors being marked with X and plagued citizens were sealed shut together with healthy citizens. In the end, whole London caught fire. Since that event happened in such years (666), it makes sense to become a level in Painkiller.
